Be a Winner at Slots

Be a winner at slots by protecting your winning streaks.

Once you've accumulated a sizable win at the video poker machines and had yourself a good run, the most important thing is to walk away a winner. There is no worse feeling than skulking away from a machine after having lost back all your wins.

The general guideline I recommend is to put away three-fourths or more of your winnings into a "protected" area that you won't touch under any circumstances. That money is bankable, for you won't play it. Whether those wins are put aside as coins in a "no touch zone" plastic bucket, a mental note to shut off after you drop to a certain number of credits, or however you do it, make sure you do it.

Never touch the money you've set aside in your protected zone. Never. Protecting your wins is just as important as limiting your losses. Once the coins or credits are on your side, it's your money, not the casinos. It's yours now. You risked and you won. Great. Now take it home with you and do something fun with it.

For example, let's say you're up $200 after a pretty good session at the $1 machines. Put $150 of that money into your protected zone. Play out the $50. This doesn't mean you have to lose the $50 if things turn sour, you can call it quits at $25, and now guarantee yourself an extra $25 win! But, in any case, don't dip below the $50. If that buffer is gone, you're gone, a winner.

Keep playing with the rest of the winnings, putting more aside as the wins accumulate. By doing this, your guaranteed winning pile steadily increases. Ride the cycle upwards. If the $200 mushrooms to $350, now move your protected zone to $300 in winnings and play with the extra $50. If your bankroll still increases with more wins, put more aside again.

However, once the winning streak stops and the tides of fortune turn against you, it's time to leave the machines as a guaranteed winner who, later on, looks back on that profitable session with great satisfaction.

Set no limits on a winning streak. When you've got a hot hand, ride it for all its worth. And when things cool down, chill out with a cool one down by the music lounge.

Emotional Control

Astute gamblers have one thing in common, they know how to manage their money and keep cool in the thick of the casino, whether they're up and riding high or struggling against a cold machine with the worst of luck. Superior playing skills alone do not make one a winning player. The concept here is self control, the ability of a player to keep the game in check while never losing sight of the winning strategies.

Winning and losing streaks are a very real part of playing video poker. It is how a player deals with inherent ups and downs that determine just how well he or she will fare overall. We're all going to lose sometimes and we're also going to win sometimes as well. But it is the smart gambler however, the one keeping it all under control, that will win when he's winning, and minimize losses when he's losing. It's all about emotional control. We can't change the spins on the reel. We can however, change our reactions to them.
